What is pediatric dentistry ?

Pedodontics, or pediatric dentistry, is a dental speciality dedicated to the care of children from an early age through to adolescence.

It aims to prevent, diagnose and treat oral problems while ensuring a positive and reassuring experience for young patients.

At White, we offer solutions tailored to the specific needs of children, including dental care under general anaesthetic or MEOPA, curative treatments such as the treatment of cavities and the roots of temporary teeth, and preventive care such as fissure sealing to protect teeth from decay.

An early approach to pediatric dentistry to correct dental malposition and promote harmonious jaw development. Our Montreux and Delémont sites are able to provide treatment under general anaesthetic in association with MAC (Mobile Anaesthesia Care).

Cavities treatment

Treating cavities in children involves removing the decayed areas and restoring the tooth in order to preserve its function and prevent possible complications. This procedure is essential for maintaining oral health and ensuring the proper development of the teeth.

CabinetWhite desinfection

Sealing dental fissures

Tooth fissure sealing is a preventive method designed to protect permanent molars from cavities. This procedure, which is recommended as soon as the first molars appear around the age of 6, involves applying a protective resin to the grooves in the teeth, preventing plaque and bacteria from accumulating in these hard-to-clean areas.

CabinetWhite drainage

Temporary tooth root treatment

Temporary tooth root treatment, or pulpotomy, is a procedure designed to preserve milk teeth until they fall out naturally. This procedure makes it possible to maintain the space needed for permanent teeth and to ensure effective chewing, while avoiding potential infections.

Early orthodontics

Early orthodontics concerns the alignment of teeth and the correction of jaw anomalies in children. Orthodontic treatment at an early age facilitates the proper development of the teeth and jaw, thus preventing more complex problems in adulthood.

did you know ?

When should a child be considered for early orthodontics ?

Early orthodontics is usually considered around age 7, when the first permanent teeth begin to appear. At this age, the dentist can detect anomalies such as malocclusions, overlaps or jaw growth problems. Early intervention can correct these misalignments before they worsen, often reducing the length and complexity of orthodontic treatment in adolescence.

Why is it important to treat decay in baby teeth ?

Milk teeth play an essential role in the development of the jaws and in preserving space for the permanent teeth. Untreated decay can lead to painful infections, affect a child’s eating and speaking, and cause complications for the permanent teeth in formation. Treating these cavities helps to ensure healthy oral development.

What is MEOPA (or EMONO) and how does it work ?

MEOPA or EMONO (equimolecular mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide) is a light sedation technique used to reduce children’s anxiety during dental treatment. Inhaled via a mask, this harmless, odorless gas allows the child to relax while remaining conscious. This makes it easier to carry out treatment in comfortable, reassuring conditions, particularly for young patients who are anxious or require prolonged procedures.

At what age should a child go to the dentist for the first time ?

It is advisable to take a child for their first visit as soon as their first teeth appear, generally around the age of 1. This allows us to monitor their development, detect any problems and establish a relationship of trust with the dentist. Early treatment also helps prevent cavities and educates parents about good dental hygiene practices.
