What is orthodontics ?

Orthodontics is a dental speciality dedicated to aligning teeth and correcting dental and jaw misalignments.

Its aim is not only to improve the aesthetics of the smile, but also to optimise chewing function and prevent oral health problems.

At White, we offer orthodontic solutions for all ages, from clear aligners and traditional braces to innovative options such as invisible orthodontics. With our partners Invisalign, SureSmile, and Spark, we offer effective, personalised treatments to meet the needs of every patient.

Transparent dental splint

Clear trays, also known as invisible splint, are removable clear plastic devices custom-made to fit the patient's teeth perfectly. They apply gentle, gradual pressure to move the teeth into their ideal position. This method is particularly popular with adults looking for an aesthetic and discreet solution to correct tooth alignment, as the aligners are virtually invisible when worn. What's more, as they are removable, they make brushing and flossing easier, contributing to better oral hygiene.

Dental braces

Ceramic braces are an effective and discreet alternative to traditional metal braces for correcting dental malposition. Made from high-quality ceramic, they are tooth-coloured, making them less visible. Ceramic braces work in the same way as metal braces, exerting constant pressure to move the teeth, but offer a significant aesthetic advantage, particularly for patients concerned about the appearance of their smile during orthodontic treatment.

invisible

Invisible orthodontics encompasses modern solutions that combine technology and comfort for fast, effective results. In addition to transparent aligners, this category also includes lingual braces, where the brackets are placed on the inside of the teeth, making them invisible from the outside. These options make it possible to correct various dental alignment problems without compromising the aesthetics of the smile during treatment. In addition, technological advances in this field have made it possible to reduce treatment times and improve patient comfort.

When should you seek treatment ?

You may wish to consider orthodontic treatment if you have :

  • Misaligned or crowded teeth
    Overlapping or misaligned teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
Diastemas (gaps between teeth) can affect aesthetics and function
  • Incorrect bite
A malocclusion (unaligned upper and lower jaws), whether crossed, open or deep, can lead to joint pain or premature wear of the teeth.
  • Aesthetic needs
Improve your smile to boost your self-confidence

Orthodontics

offers much more than aesthetic benefits :

Improved oral health

Aligned teeth are easier to clean, reducing the risk of cavities and periodontal disease.

Comfort and functionality

Good dental alignment improves chewing and phonation and prevents joint pain (TMJ).

Self-confidence

A harmonious smile has a positive impact on self-esteem and social interaction.

Preventing complications

An untreated malocclusion can cause long-term problems, such as tooth wear and facial imbalances.

How long does orthodontic treatment last ?

The duration of orthodontic treatment varies according to the complexity of the case, the patient’s age and the objectives defined with your orthodontist. As a general rule, treatment lasts between 12 and 24 months. However, thanks to advanced technologies such as those used by SureSmile, this can be reduced in some cases. These digital systems allow ultra-precise planning of dental movements, optimising the effectiveness of the treatment. You’ll also be able to see noticeable improvements within the first few months, which can be highly motivating for continuing the treatment right through to the end.

Are ceramic braces strong ?

Yes, ceramic braces are designed to be both discreet and strong. Made from modern materials, they offer excellent durability and can withstand the forces needed to move teeth gently but effectively. They are an ideal alternative to traditional metal braces for patients concerned about their appearance during orthodontic treatment. Although they are slightly more fragile than metal braces, their strength is sufficient to treat the vast majority of orthodontic cases, provided you follow your orthodontist’s instructions.

At what age can orthodontic treatment begin ?

Orthodontic treatment can begin as early as age 7, when the first permanent teeth appear. This early phase, known as ‘interceptive orthodontics’, makes it possible to correct jaw growth problems or malocclusions before they become serious. In adolescents, treatment is particularly effective thanks to active growth, which facilitates tooth movement. As for adults, there is no age limit for improving dental alignment. Thanks to technological advances, discreet solutions such as transparent splints and ceramic braces are perfectly suited to the aesthetic and functional needs of adults.

Are clear splints as effective as traditional braces ?

Yes, clear splints, such as those offered by Invisalign, SureSmile and Spark, are just as effective as traditional braces in treating a wide range of orthodontic problems. They are ideal for correcting dental malposition, spacing or even complex malocclusions. As well as being discreet, they offer unique flexibility thanks to their removable nature, making it easier to maintain good oral hygiene and enjoy meals without restraint. However, their effectiveness largely depends on the patient’s rigour, who needs to wear them between 20 and 22 hours a day to guarantee optimum results. With regular monitoring and correct use, they rival traditional braces in terms of performance, while offering greater comfort.
